People often ask me “So why go though you instead of doing all my advertising myself”. It’s a really great question I often overlook preparing a coherent answer to because in my mind I know how valuable we can be to our clients. It’s a case of not seeing the forest for the trees.
Below are 3 great reasons why you should invest in retaining the services of an advertising agency instead of trying to do it on your own:
We do this all day long for a ton of different clients. We dedicate our days to practicing and perfecting our advertising decision-making skills. When you work with us, you can rest in knowing your advertising and marketing is being created and executed correctly, with your best interest in mind. Low resolution images irritate us. Boring fonts trigger obsessive compulsive tendencies. Dumb headlines or branding statements make us feel flat. Aside from creative execution, on the media placement and buying side we often meet advertisers advertising on media that does not make sense for their business – not even in a parallel universe – and that makes us feel sad. When we ask why they chose that media, the answers vary, but it’s generally because each sales rep did a good job convincing the client that their medium is the best and worked out a schedule that gives the illusion of a great “deal” financially-speaking. It’s important to remember that the media rep works for their company, not yours. We work for YOU, our client, and our agenda is to protect your best interests. Plus, we do this all day long for various clients so our relationship with media outlets is on a totally different level. I rarely see bad media schedule proposals on my desk – except from time to time when I get a rookie rep!
We catch mistakes galore! We intercept mistakes early in the process by helping our clients clearly define their target audience. We intercept mistakes again in the media selection process. Lastly, we audit all of our client’s media invoices against what was ordered and we’ve found thousands of dollars’ worth of erroneously billed media, which we proudly refund to our clients. When I write refund checks for advertising dollars that would have otherwise gone to the media company, I no longer need to verbalize how valuable we are to our clients. The most intangible benefit we provide is not making mistakes in the first place, which can happen on occasion but rarely actually does, go easily unnoticed.
